Teaching With Highlights Literacy Lights
Meeting Objectives with Highlights Stories and Articles
Reprinted from Highlights Parent Involvement Program - Teacher Resource Book.
The stories and articles in Highlights for Children magazine are high in both interest
and quality. You will want to use the stories to help open your students' eyes to the
joys and the component elements of narrative. You will want to use the articles for their
information and for their worth as models of how information can be presented.
In the upcoming pages you will find ideas you can use with both stories and articles.
These are followed by ideas specifically designed for use with stories and then by ideas
specifically for use with articles.
Objectives are printed in italics, and opportunities for family involvement are indicated in bold type.
As you use and extend these suggestions, try to use stories and articles to develop family activities
that are engaging and open to more than literary ways of learning.
