Predicting the Need for Newly Hired Teachers in the United States to 2008-09
This report examines the need for addititional teachers by using information from several Schools and Staffing Surveys. This report finds that approximately 2 million additional teachers will be needed by 2008-09. Some of these additional teachers will be needed to replace teachers leaving the profession and others will be needed as enrollments continue to increase.
K12 Handhelds
An extremely robust and useful site dedicated to providing handheld solutions for education. The site includes an
interesting "101 Great Educational Uses for Your Handheld Computer" paper, as well as sections on application
software, integration studies, access to grant information, and a set of various useful resources about the
uses of handhelds in education.
The Teacher List
The Teacher List is a daily listserv and web-archive of one useful website each day. (A listserv is an online or
email newsletter sent to a group of subscribers.) Edmonton teacher and technology coordinator, Pete MacKay,
provides this free service as a hobby. The basic philosophy is that teachers are busy enough without having to
absorb massive amounts of information. By writing about only one site per day, teachers can decide quickly
whether or not that day's site is of use to them.
